What it is

Can You Use AI answers one kind of question: "can I use AI to…?" Write a cover letter, do my taxes, edit my book, is it illegal to use AI art. Every page opens with one of four verdicts (Yes, Yes with care, It depends, No) and a short direct answer, then explains how to do it well, the rules and risks, and links every source at the bottom.

Who it's for

I built it for people in the UK who want to use AI for something specific and need to know whether they're allowed to, and what could go wrong, before they start. The answers are usually scattered across legislation, regulator guidance and platform rules, so I put them in one place.

How it works

  1. Verdict first. Each page leads with a verdict and a direct answer of up to 200 characters, so you get the ruling before the detail.
  2. Rules plus reality. A verdict comes from two things: the rules that apply, and what current AI tools can actually do.
  3. Sourced or not published. Primary sources are preferred: legislation, regulators, official guidance and published policies. A claim with no source doesn't go up.
  4. Search in the browser. The search box filters the questions on your own device. What you type isn't sent anywhere.
  5. Readable by machines too. Every page has a Markdown copy, and the whole site is in llms.txt and llms-full.txt.

FAQ

Can I use AI to write a cover letter or CV in the UK?

Yes, with care, according to Can You Use AI. AI is a good drafting and editing aid, but every claim must be true, it should read as you, and you need to follow the employer's own rules on AI.

How does Can You Use AI decide its verdicts?

Can You Use AI bases each verdict on the rules that apply (laws, regulator guidance, platform and institution policies) and on what current AI tools can actually do. Every page links its sources and shows when it was last reviewed.

Does Can You Use AI promote its publisher's own products?

Some Can You Use AI pages show a panel of products made by the same studio, always labelled as ours. They only appear where they fit the question, and the verdict never depends on them.
